On September 22, the United States sanctioned Iran’s Morality Police and seven senior security officials for violence against protestors and the death of Mahsa Amini. The 22-year-old woman was detained by Morality Police in Tehran on September 13 for an “improper” hijab, or head covering. She was allegedly beaten and then died in custody three days later.
