Carlisle man fined for stealing fish

Prosecution: Carlisle s Rickergate court A THIRTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD Carlisle man has admitted an offence of “unlawfully taking fish in water which was private property.” Ioan Lupu, of Bowman Street, committed the offence at C&D Auction Mart in Longtown on Thursday, October 22 last year, Carlisle’s Rickergate Magistrates’ Court heard. After hearing an outline of the offence, which was prosecuted under the 1968 Theft Act, the defendant was fined £80 and told that he must pay a victim surcharge of £34. There was no claim for costs from the Crown Prosecution Service. Lupu, who was not represented in court, has until May 21 to pay the fine
