Interstate 70 reopened Monday morning after the weekend closure for a âhistoric traffic shift,â the Colorado Department of Transportation said.
The interstate closed from Friday night to Monday morning for the âMile High Shiftâ between Washington Street and Interstate 270.
The closure allowed crews to work around the clock to move all six lanes of traffic between Brighton and Colorado boulevards from the existing viaduct to the future westbound lanes of the lowered section of the Central 70 Project through northern Denver.
The shift sets the stage for demolishing the structurally deficient 57-year-old viaduct and building new eastbound lanes for I-70 and 46th South Avenue.
