east to west. there is that band right now that you see in that live shot with the heavy downpours. again, these bands are moving very fast at about 30 to 35 miles per hour. so, this is the destructive eye wall right here. it s moving northwest at 6 miles per hour. the national weather service in key west put out a statement and they said about 7 to 8:00 a.m. we should see a land falling eye wall. that is when the most dangerous surge, the most dangerous winds will be at their peak here. we re coming up on that. basically if you re in the keys you saw julia s live shot, shelter in place. it s too late. you have to be in an interior room. you have to be away from windows and make sure you have a mattress or wearing a helmet. it is going to get even scarier there. i know that s hard to believe, but the conditions going downhill very quickly in the keys. essentially folks have two to three hours until that landfall.
in a safe room, interior room or closet in your home with no windows at this point, especially here in the lower keys where you re going to see the eye wall wind. that s almost winds of a tornado coming through but over a very, very large area and for a long period of time. you re going to want tbe in the safest room you can find, lowest floor of a building. the proem is, the storm surge is going to come, too. you have to that s why people were told to evacuate to begin with, because the combination of the surge and the winds, so deadly there. then we re going to see it going up the coast. everglades city, naples, cape coral, port charlotte. yeah. give us an idea of what you re looking at and what s the chance of it moving? at this point the forecast uncertainty is pretty small. with this track parallel to the coast. it s a small jog to the right could have it make landfall in the fourth myers area. to the left, big bend. everybody along the west coast
bull s-eye. people rethinking their plans, not too late for them to get out. it is not. if you haven t gotten into a shelter, you need to take every opportunity to make it as safe as possible in your home. if you are dealing with the interior room, find as much soft material as you can put around it so you don t get hit by things that might be flying. make yourself as safe as possible. we want our people to be safe. abby: paso we ve been hearing from governor scott as well. where christman, you were at our prayers. thank you so much. pete: is hurricane karma continues to move towards the united states, every aspect we
this time was just an absolutely totally different attitude and maybe i m sure that harvey had something to do with that as well. neil: and i m wondering, when you hear the storm changes a little bit and gas stations are at that level now where they have little or no gas and these people headed toward orlando, and now, you know, orlando could be in the path of this, did they say i m staying where i am and how do you feel about that? you know, the people that are going to stay, we have been just standing up and saying, look, you need to be in as secure a place as you can and just try and stay in an interior room, and the other issue you were talking about was just talking about the fact that the service industry, it s very difficult, but if you were in naples with me right there and you said, hey, i want to get
through the gulf coast there. to be clear, the difference between a tornado watch and a tornado warning. tornado watch means conditions are favorable. it s basically a forecast saying to be have your guard up, your watch, and that there could be tornadoes occurring over the next several hours, depending on how long the watches are out. usually they re averaging five to six hours on a nontropical event like this. that means you ll want to have your guard out. then a warning means there is a tornado either spotted or radar indicated by a meteorologist by reading the radar. but then, you know, within their local area. a warning is definitely more of a seek shelter type thing, whereas a watch s pay attention. have your noaa weather radio or smartphone device or local tv, something, be ready for to seek a sturdier interior room.
