109 children killed in ukraine so far in this war. two of those missiles we understand missed the plant there in lviv. what happened to them? yeah, ukraine s armed forces say some air defense systems were actually able to intercept two of what they believe were six probably cruise missiles that were fired that were meant for this area. now, this is the first time russia has hit a target inside lviv city limits. as you know it has been a pretty safe city thus far. there have been a couple of strikes in other spots in the west of ukraine just in the last week. one of them was recently killing 35 people closer to the polish border. that was a training camp where some foreigners were training for the part of the fight here as well as possible training of other ukrainian forces as well. lviv is also the refuge for some 200,000 ukrainians who have been fleeing attacks elsewhere in the nation.
people are flooding into lviv, where we are. and of course, the eastern cities of this country are just being brutalized by relentless shelling. the city of mariupol has essentially been raised to the ground. and everybody who s in there, 400,000 of them, are essentially being held hostage. all right, nbc s ali arouzi life in ukraine for us. starting us off, ali, thank you very much. on a tour now to the humanitarian aspect in this equation. nbc correspondent, josh lederman, is in poland, with the very latest on the struggle to address what is emerging to be one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. josh, tell us what you are seeing. how authorities there are coping with this continuing influx of people, making their way across ukraine s borders into poland and elsewhere? yeah, here in poland, they have accepted well over 1.5 million refugees in the few
trauma that they have experienced and that they have seen. katy, that report, i didn t want to go, that little girl. that s what we saw last week, and you said i was in poland and now i am inside lviv. an average of one child every second for the last three weeks have fled. i was at a children s hospital in lviv, and the story today which really hit me was of a little girl that couldn t go. we got to the hospital and were speaking to the nurses, and they said there was a little girl 2 months old, and her name was ana and her mother had made what i could only assume the most impossible choice to leave her at a maternity ward in kyiv two
