To do here. I have always been reluctant to say this truly could be one of the most important things we as members of this committee do. The world is experiencing today and what the american and as is americas face is one of the most significant challenges that a lot of us will face in our lifetime. The bad news, the really bad news is that its entirely possible that it will happen again. I say this of course because the experts tell us that this virus that made the leap from one species to another can very easily happen again and if there are 2000 of these viruses out there you have no idea what they can do when they get into a human being. Thats what experts and scientists tell us have identified within their branch about 2000 different viruses. Having said that we need to look forward and i want to stress what im trying to do with this and what about all of us are trying to do, to look forward. There are a lot of hearings going on and a lot of hyperbowl going on and a lot of blame a
Let me take just a moment to talk about what we are attempting to do here in the senate. Exaggeration and hyperbole is the order of the day. Be a member of congress. We welcome suzanne spaulding. Also thomas fanning, two of the commissioners of the commission. First of all, i want to thank the cochairs and the two commissioners for their important work on the Cyberspace Solarium Commission. I think the end product is excellent. I think it has some solid recommendations that a number of these are within our committees jurisdiction and will be working hard to vault those and the ones evaluate those and the ones that we can get them passed into law. They can be done through executive action. I would like to spend my time, enter my formal written statement into the record. I just want to talk about two of the commissions of recommendations. When i got here in the congress in 2011, cybersecurity was a hot issue. It still is. It is not going away. But i remember the buzz word back then is we have to do something about this. We have made a number of attempts and quite honestly, we have made a fair amount of progress. My own sense
A talk titled the hamilton scheme, enemies and allies in the american economy, author and scholar William Hoagland discusses Alexander Hamiltons ideas. This is about 15 minutes. While the gallery of museum is closed because of a flood we sustained, but our robust programming continues as evidenced today. Our author speaking is William Hoagland, he has written multiple books on early u. S. History, including bottom of the black sneak, declaration, the whiskey rebellion, and founding finance. He is also the author of a recent contributor, i should say, of a recent publication of historians on hamilton. He has also penned many essays and articles you can read in places like the atlantic monthly, salon, boston review, huffington post, but none more important than our own magazine, financial history. You can find that on our website. It should be no surprise that the topic of williams next book is Alexander Hamilton. It is my pleasure to introduce him. [applause] thanks a lot. I know the ac
