Telangana promotes medical device manufacturing in a big way
The Union government is scrutinising applications received from 16 States that showed interest in promoting medical devices parks, according to S Eswara Reddy, Joint Drugs Controller at the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation. Addressing a session on ‘Medical Technologies – the next big opportunity for India’ at the BioAsia-2021 on Tuesday, he said the government had introduced an incentive-based scheme to encourage indigenous production of medical devices. The Government has already cleared a few categories of medical devices under the PLI (Production Linked Incentive) scheme. The salient feature of the scheme is that the government will provide 5 per cent incentive on incremental sales of devices manufactured in the country,” he said.

Hopeful of bagging as Hyderabad hosts T-Works: senior official
Hyderabad is in the race to host the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing (NCAM) that the Central government has proposed to accelerate digital revolution of industrial production.
Additive manufacturing or AM, better known as 3D printing, is revolutionising product design and on-location manufacturing globally, according to a discussion paper on the upcoming National Strategy for Additive Manufacturing.
Inviting comments on the strategy, the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said AM is enabling radical product design and re-design, which further accelerate development of new material properties. The fundamental and advanced level courses designed for Class VIII-XII students, and senior engineering graduates respectively
Hexagon Capability Centre India (HCCI), an arm of the Swedish technology firm Hexagon AB, has started HexArt Institute to offer free courses in artificial intelligence (AI).
The courses, however, are offered only to students from Class VIII and above. Telangana IT and Industries Secretary Jayesh Ranjan formally launched the 2,000-square feet facility at Mehdipatnam on Monday.
Hexagon has about 20,000 employees in 50 countries, including 1,400 at the Hyderabad facility.
Started as a corporate social responsibility initiative, the institute targets to train over 350 students every year in different batches.
