Life for the 42 families living behind barbed wire fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam s Karimganj district is challenging, but they remain hopeful of being integrated into the mainland one day. They start their day with the opening of Border Gate No: 36 by the BSF at 6 am, allowing them to work or attend school, but they must return by 7 pm, unless in emergencies. The village, Gobindapur, lies just outside the barbed wire, as per the border protocol, but the residents face difficulties and feel ignored by political parties.
