Bark beetles are tiny insects that burrow into the bark of pine trees to lay their eggs, often killing the tree in the process. One way to mitigate beetle outbreaks is through prescribed burns. But as KSJD’s Lucas Brady Woods reports for Rocky Mountain Community Radio, drought conditions fueling their spread aren’t so easy to address.
According to a study from the Urban Indian Health Institute, there were 5,712 missing Indigenous women and girls reported to the National Crime Information Center by 2016. At that time, the US Department of Justice's federal missing persons database, NamUs, had recorded 116 cases.
