Former Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) Rajesh Das has been sentenced to compulsory retirement after being convicted of sexual harassment. The court in Villupuram found Das guilty of sexually harassing a female IPS officer while on duty in 2021. In addition to the retirement penalty, Das was fined and sentenced to three years in prison. The decision to penalize Das was made by the TN government, following a show cause notice issued under rule 14(i) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules. The incident occurred in February 2021 when Das sexually harassed the woman IPS officer in his vehicle while providing security to the Chief Minister during an election campaign. Despite threats and pressure, the officer filed a complaint against Das. Read more about how she pursued the case against the ex-DGP.
