Retail sales, indicated by vehicle registrations, surged by nearly 19% to a record 3.8 million units during the festive season, reflecting strong consumer demand. Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) data reveals 3,793,584 vehicles registered between Navratri and Bhai Dooj, a 19% increase from the 2022 period. Sales growth was 21% in two-wheelers, 41% in three-wheelers, 8% in commercial vehicles and 10% in passenger vehicles.
Aston Martin plans to expand its presence in India s luxury car market, targeting the growing number of rich individuals who are willing to spend on high-end brands. The company currently sells around 10-15 units in India each year and aims to introduce new models, including an electric vehicle, to attract more customers. India s luxury car market has been experiencing strong growth, with sales of ultra-luxury cars increasing by 50% in 2022. However, high taxes on super luxury cars remain a challenge, limiting sales in the country.
This comes as the country s overall passenger vehicle sales increased by nearly 10% to over two million units during the same period. Strong consumer demand and healthy order books are expected to help the sector maintain momentum through the year, and push overall volumes past the pre-pandemic peak of 40,000 units in 2018, according to industry executives.
