Economy must reopen to give workers their mojo back, says Haldane
Bank of England chief economist says ending all pandemic restrictions as planned on June 21 would be fantastic for the economy

Britain will win a massive economic boost and thousands of businesses and workers will get their mojo back if lockdown freedom day goes ahead as planned on June 21, Andy Haldane, the Bank of England s chief economist, has said.
Mr Haldane said that an end to the last of the Covid restrictions would be fantastic for growth as the country recovers from its deepest recession in centuries.
The intervention by Mr Haldane came in a crucial week as ministers assess the spread of the Delta Covid variant before deciding whether to remove all legal restrictions on social contact in the last phase of the lockdown roadmap.
