Governor Ned Lamont announced on Wednesday, that the fiscal year 2025 budget adjustment proposal that he will present to lawmakers this month, will include a recommendation that licensure application fees required for workers to obtain certain jobs in the education, childcare, and healthcare fields be eliminated. The governor said that he is proposing the change in an effort to encourage workers looking for employment to seek jobs in fields in which there is a significant need to fill available openings. The proposal will save these workers about $3.5 million annually.

A $16.5 million plan to update and reconfigure Danbury High’s School’s science labs has made the 2024 Connecticut School Building Project Priority List and will now be reviewed by the legislature’s Education and Finance Committees for further consideration. The project… if it receives final approval… will update and reconfigure 28,400 square feet of science labs at Danbury High School on the 4th and 5th floors of the C Building. Of the total cost $16.5 million, the state would cover 63.21%, or $10,429,650.

Danbury Mayor Roberto Alves reminds all city residents that he will be holding his first Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, March 21st at 7pm at Danbury High School’s Black Box Theater. The Mayor encourages everyone, especially first ward residents, to attend. The Mayor also says he is happy to announce the formation of the Mayor’s Community Advisory Committee… what he calls just one in a series of steps his administration is taking to strengthen community involvement and to create an additional link between City Hall and our community. While the agreement wasn’t unanimous, the Brookfield Board of Education has voted in favor of adopting the superintendent’s proposed 2024-25 school budget. The total budget was cut by nearly $46,000 from the original amount proposed, and it comes in at $53.62 Million. That still, marks a 6.4% increase over the current year’s budget. The final vote was 5 to 2 in favor of adoption.
