Bahamas-registered cruise ship latest vessel detained for illegal anchoring in Johor waters

The Bahamas-registered cruise which was detained by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency for illegal anchoring at Tanjung Siang, Kota Tinggi on April 17, 2021. KOTA TINGGI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has detained 34 merchant ships for anchoring illegally in Johor waters since launching Op Jangkar Haram on March 24. Johor MMEA director First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria said that 12 vessels were detained for harbouring illegally off Johor over a 10-day period that began on April 8. He said that the latest vessel is a Bahamas-registered cruise liner which was spotted near here by a MMEA patrol unit at around 12pm on Saturday (April 17).

MMEA detains Italian-registered tanker ship for illegal anchoring

KOTA TINGGI: An Italian-registered tanker ship has been detained in Johor waters for illegal anchoring. Johor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria said the ship was found at 12.6 nautical miles east of Tanjung Penawar here at around 2.45pm on Saturday (April 3). Checks found that the ship, registered in Torre Del Greco, Italy, did not obtain an approval from the Marine Department to anchor in Malaysian waters. The ship s master and chief officer were brought to the Tanjung Sedili maritime zone office for investigations. They could be fined up to RM100,000 or jailed for not more than two years upon conviction, he said.
