Stafford surveys public on use $300K EPA grant; which brownfield should be cleaned up

STAFFORD — The town is continuing to seek resident input as it uses a $300,000 grant awarded last year by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to evaluate and prioritize various brownfields, or contaminated sites, for cleanup and redevelopment. At last week’s Board of Selectmen meeting, nearly 30 residents participated in real-time polling through Slido, an interactive online program, with most participants choosing the abandoned Earl M. Witt School, which sits atop a hill in Hyde Park and was closed in 2007. Other properties being considered by the town are the former American Woolen Mill complex at 21 Furnace Ave., the Hydeville Mill at 108 Hydeville Road, the former Stafford Cleaners at 27 E. Main St., and the former Country Village Shops at 30 W. Stafford Road.
