konc coverage of hurricane dorian. we just received the 11:00 a.m. update from the national hurricane center. chad myers will have that for you in just a moment. let s go to dc for an update on the breaking news. this boat fire off the coast of southern california. ryan. reporter: victor, that s right, we are watching for that breaking news out of los angeles. keeping an eye on an unfolding rescue operation off the coast of southern california. a number of people dead after a dive boat catches fire near santa cruz island. some of them have been rescued, but dozens are still missing. we ll hear from a local fire official in just a moment, but first let s get back to victor with the latest on the track of hurricane dorian. victor. reporter: ryan, thank you so much. listen, the surf is really kicking up here. we re in between those extreme outer bands of hurricane dorian. there were people on this beach. this is under a mandatory evacuation, but people are taking advantage o
good evening. chris cuomo is off tonight. topping the special hour of 360, hurricane dorian stalled over the bahamas. still doing enormous damage to a chain of islands and no hope of anyone getting out or finding higher ground. at least five are dead on the a abackos islands. you can obviously outwalk this, it s stationary. i think another 12 hours, anderson. on saturday the european model had the system move in near shreveport and will continue into tuesday morning. there s no reason to believe it s going to leave the area. it s been wobbling. freeport has been out of the eye walls. and the wind gusts are 165. i know that doesn t sound like much. it was over 200. but i think we need to start preparing ourselves for the images we re going to see out of this. the devastation. i know there s five fatalities, but that number is going to go up. the u.s. coast guard has landed where it made landfall. but that eye is mean and nasty and it continues just to pummel this area most l
allison chinchar. she has a brand new update on the path and the intensity of dorian, allison, which is very important. it is, yes. also the direction. finally some good news to provide. the storm is now moving west-northwest instead of due west. that may seem like such a nominal thing to point out but it s very important because it now means we re starting to see that gradual shift off to the north. this is great news for not only people in freeport but also along the florida coast because it begins it s beginning that shift away from florida and up the coast rather instead. now, i want to emphasize this does not mean florida will not be impacted. it just means that we re starting to see that northward trend so the landfall across florida is starting to come down, at least the chances. however, because impacts will still be in place, we have hurricane watches, warnings as well as tropical storm warnings across the east coast of florida. mainly due to the fact that the wind
the wind is still howling and some areas the water is rising, in some areas it s going down. we need wheelchairs, hospital beds, walkers. we were just in a lot of problem right now. here s the simulation from the national hurricane center. dorian literally, literally inching to the northwest. you could walk faster than this storm. on the ground much of grand bahama island under water, homes battered by wind and rain, then swamped with the storm surge. the red cross says about 13,000 homes there have been destroyed. oh, my god. you heard it there, oh, my god one woman saying as he walks around her devastated home. she went on to say everything is ruined. they medevaced 19 people out of that community and they re out trying and hoping to find people still trapped in their homes. dorian s effect already being felt on the shores of fse beach. john, tell us what you ve been seeing and how the progression is going. reporter: it s been like this for 36 straight hours, john
