JFK Marina Parking Lot Plan Pulled Due to Massive Community Opposition

Interpretive rendering based upon the developer’s “Plan A” © Friends of Trevor Park 2021 A plans to build a parking lot on top of a part of JFK Marina and park have been withdrawn, with a revised proposal coming soon. The idea, conceptual rendering above, has been opposed by large parts of the Yonkers community who live in the neighborhood, and that opposition has forced the developer, The Loren Group to come up with a revised plan or alternative location. The Loren Group has submitted plans to redevelop the Glenwood Powerplant, one of the remaining unused, parcels along with Hudson Riverfront in northwest Yonkers. Purchased in 2013, the historic building will be reimagined as a co-working, incubator, maker space, and grand convening space, for events, workshops, public art and gatherings that engage entrepreneurs, innovators, scientists, artists. “The Plant” would be the name of the redeveloped space.

Albany Skyway Construction To Start This Month

Albany Skyway rendering by Stantec Construction on a long-planned elevated park in Albany will begin this month. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says the Albany Skyway project will transform an underused ramp off Interstate 787 into an aerial park. Construction is expected to be done by the end of the year. Advocates for the project say it will provide new parkland, expand recreational opportunities, and provide a safe way for bikers and pedestrians to access the Hudson Riverfront and connecting bike trail. Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan says funding for the $13 million project once seemed out of reach. “Now just have chipped away it and chipped away at it and made the case for a linear park and we re moving it forward to reality, Sheehan said.
