The Philippine Government promised that would bring prosperity and industrialization to the country. But indigenous farmers and workers who were at the front line of the protest knew better. They protested because they knew that the apec agenda would be devastating to their land and livelihood. And fast forward 22 years later, the philippine market has been flooded by foreign rice imports, which local farmers cannot compete with.
