A controversial decision to allow chaplains to be hired or volunteer, providing services, support and programs for students in schools was struck down by Houston ISD Thursday evening.
Houston ISD schools returned to school on Wednesday after cancelling classes on Tuesday due to ongoing hard freeze conditions. Several of these campuses dealt with water and heat-related issues that resulted in a handful of early dismissals and option pick ups.
An HISD spokesperson didn't confirm the exact number of HISD schools affected by malfunctioning heaters, but emphasized that "a vast majority" of the district's 274 schools haven't had issues with campus heaters.
