I came to congress in 1989, one of just 31 women in the house and senate and to this committee in 1993 alongside only six other women under the 64member panel. This body is better for the 100 women serving in the 116th congress and for the many women in the room today. Its my honor to address the full committee for my final time as the first woman chair. And today, we markup my final appropriation bills in the ways and Means Committee room. The most notable name on the list of people actually honored in the capitol with a statue from the collection of statues where each state gets to send, would probably be Jefferson Davis, who was the confederate president during the war. And so each state gets to send , the statues. Speaker pelosi basically wants them to be removed by what is called the joint committee on the library. It is a Standing Committee that is the leadership of the rules and Administration Committee in the senate and the house Administration Committee in the house and it wants to remove those statues anyway. Anyone saw it, it was especially the testimony of George Floyds brother. He is just a remarkable person. He and his wife were here.
