Compeer Financial awards grants to 18 Wisconsin groups

Grants totaling $91,293 went directly to coronavirus-related efforts. Feb 25, 2021 Compeer Financial’s Fund for Rural America, the Farm Credit cooperative’s giving program, has awarded 40 General Use Grants, totaling $182,000. General Use Grants fund initiatives and organizations whose work enrich agriculture and rural America, aligning with Compeer Financial’s mission. The organization says the grants will directly impact the lives of 1.2 million people and will touch 6.2 million lives. Eighteen grants totaling $91,293 went directly to coronavirus-related efforts. “The General Use Grant is integral to our organization’s commitment to the farmers and communities we serve,” says Karen Schieler, senior corporate giving specialist at Compeer Financial. “This program impacts the communities where Compeer clients and team members live and work and embodies our commitment to enriching agriculture and rural America.”

South Berkshire Food Pantries Benefit from Holiday Food Drive As the families in our communities experience hardship during these unprecedented times, Salisbury Bank took the opportunity to help with another successful Fill-the-Basket food drive aiming to benefit local food pantries. As reported in a media release, fourteen Branch offices located in Berkshire County, MA, Litchfield County, CT and Dutchess, Orange, and Ulster Counties in NY collected food and cash donations throughout the months of November and December. Together we were able to collect and donate over 1,700 non-perishable food and household items, and $719 in cash donations. Salisbury Bank has also donated $1,000 to each organization that the branches worked with for the food drive.

Hope council approves limited assistance for food pantry HOPE The Hope Town Council is hoping to provide some assistance to small businesses and residents in the town. “From what I know, there are probably two businesses around the town square that have not been hurt badly,” Susan Thayer Fye told the Hope Town Council. Even before COVID-19 began damaging the national economy, the latest census data showed the median household income in Hope was about 20% lower than the comparative median figure of $60,152 earned by families in Columbus. That same data shows 6.3% of Hope residents living in poverty, while 6% had no health insurance.
