I was assigned to cover governor bush, who was running for office. I was among many journalists traveling on the campaign trail for nearly 18 months. And it was not until the very end of the campaign that it was decided actually, realized that i had a shot at the white house job, which i was very happy and satisfied with my position at the ap. Have faith in the trees. Reporter senior martha diero was moving back into her dorms sunday morning when she heard about the tree accident. Despite her faith in trees this isnt the first one to come down. During the winter one of the other trees, the newer tree fell outside that building. I think the wind blew it over. Reporter her father is a bit more nervous for her and the other students. This is an old college. Obviously these trees were planted the same time this college was founded, so those are pretty concerning to me with the drought we had in california and with the wind they have up here, with the rain. Its a real concern especial especially with these big sequoias over here. Menlo College Officials decline to comment, but parents hope the college will trim back the remaining trees on campus. Pretrial motion set in the case of the undocumented immigrant that is accused of killing kate steinle and Lopez Sanchez is charged with first degree murder, and the superior judge that was assigned to the case will hear the legal motions today. Kate steinle was walking with her father and family friend along the waterfront in july 2015 and the bullet hit her in the back killing her. Lopez sanchez had been deported five times before the shooting. The trial date has not been scheduled but jury selection is expected to start this week.
