As this Fourth of July holiday approaches, activists say they want more Florida beaches to declare independence from clothes.
The American Association of Naked Recreation (AANR) and Beach Education Advocates for Culture, Health, Environment and Safety Foundation (B.E.A.C.H.E.S.), along with more than 50 clothing-optional social clubs and resorts said lawmakers need to make clear to law enforcement: Floridians are free to be naked in public.
This coalition of Nakationers, an AANR term to describe people who enjoy a naked vacation, was able to get a bill (SB 1486)through at least one Senate committee during the 2021 Session. A similar bill cleared two Senate committees in 2020.

The string of subtropical islands stretching 125 miles west from Florida between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean are known as the Florida Keys.
Many people do not realize that the Keys are home to ten state parks. Each has something unique to offer and provides expansive scenery and wide-open spaces. It is easy to find some solitude in all the parks, and the outdoor recreational activities are plentiful.
Some of the best and most secluded beaches are found in Florida’s state parks. The state parks in the Keys are rich with fascinating Florida Keys history, underwater sea life, and coastal landscapes.

Bejeweled at both ends by historic riverfront mansions and ancient live oaks, with a dynamic commercial district in between, Bay Street in downtown Beaufort seems a microcosm of the city: a place where Old South and New South peacefully coexist. Founded in 1711, Beaufort was the birthplace of secession, but the town was occupied by Union forces early in the Civil War and later spared Sherman’s torch. On nearby St. Helena Island, the 1862-founded Penn Center memorializes the country’s first school for freed slaves; Martin Luther King Jr. wrote his “I Have a Dream” speech there a century later. So plentiful are its pre-war and post-war landmarks, President Barack Obama established Reconstruction Era National Historical Park in Beaufort in January 2017.
