£300,000 textile training academy to open in Leicester

Fibre2Fashion Toggle navigation 20 Pic: Shutterstock The Leicester city council will establish a £300,000 training academy, called the Leicester Fashion Technology Academy (LFTA), in Spinney Hills, where many of the city’s troubled textile and apparel manufacturers are based. The council is working with training provider Fashion Enter Ltd and clothing company Ethically Sourced Products Ltd on the scheme. The pilot project will offer apprenticeships and accredited training for people working in the local textile industry. The new academy, based on the top floor of Ethically Sourced Products’ factory premises in Stonebridge Street will also work closely with local textiles and fashion manufacturing businesses.

Fibre2Fashion Toggle navigation 19 Pic: Messe Frankfurt Messe Frankfurt, the trade fair organiser, has announced that after consultation with customers, it has decided to postpone international physical trade fairs planned for April and May Prolight + Sound, the International Consumer Goods Show, Heimtextil, Techtextil and Texprocess as a result of regulations and travel restrictions that have been imposed.   “The coronavirus pandemic has taken centre-stage, and our plans have not escaped its impact. In light of the current situation, it would not be possible for us to satisfy our customers’ requirements for international trade fairs in April or May,” Detlef Braun, member of the executive board of Messe Frankfurt, said in a press release.

Facilitated by Fashion for Good, the Project is a collaboration with brands BestSeller and Kering who will provide eight garment styles to be traced for the pilot, with fibres sourced from three leading sustainable viscose producers. TextileGenesis will design traceability applications for use across the value chain. It will provide its blockchain solution and platform to trace the origins of the viscose used in the garments along the supply chains of the two brands. These chains span eight countries to reflect the real-world complexities and supply-chain scenarios to test the flexibility and scalability of the platform.
