Resembling an honest and open discussion of the issues, i think it gives us a lot to be concerned about. The solution should be the goal. When members of congress are more interested in a bill that they believe to be perfect, rather than seriously engaging in debate, it raises a lot of concerns about how we protect liberty and that we do our constitutional duty. Ive been in college for a while, mr. President , as some of my friends are more than eager to point out, and i have never for a perfect bill. Ever. Ive introduced a couple of perfect bills but i never voted for a perfect bill. I never voted b for a bill that couldnt be improved. Our good friend tim scott said something the other day that struck me as a truism. He said i think most americans are tired of republicans and democrats talking about republicans and democrats. Most americans, as senator scotts point was made, what is to solve problems. They want us to, not with the best answer possible, they want us to come up with the
So many other innocent black men and women violently taken from their families and loved ones. This is a pain all too familiar for too many black americans. And this is a moment of reckoning for our mom nation blk americans have borne the front of the systemic racism as has native American Communities and hispanic to mexico and across the nation. So many of our officers protect and serve with honor and integrity. But we cannot continue to sweep Police Brutality and racial inequality under the rug to ignore the painful legacies until the next tragedy. There are thousands of americans of every political strife across the nation who have come out in peaceful protestan a demanding change. Now, we know there are a small field exploiting our nations pain, and using violence to disrupt. We unequivocally condemn all acts of violence and call for nonviolence and urgent action. By calling for the us military to quell protest has on as the president has done that crosses the line between civilian
Overnight into june the 1st. And as one television a week ago describing the events of how a group of white rioters had marched into greenwood, it was called black wall street and had killed up to 300 people there and had set greenwood on fire, destroying homes and businesses. As im talking and many people at home dont know this, but everyone in this chamber does, as im talking im just talking to a camera lens. I cant tell whats on tv at the time, but as im talking, there are pictures of a town in the United States currently on fire while im describing a race massacre 99 years ago that weekend. Weve come a long way in the issue of race in america. But we clearly have a very long way to go. We have four centuries of racial inequality stacked on top of each other. While we break through those things step by step, we have things that we can do. Ive been on the phone for days with friends and people that i know from all over oklahoma, all over backgrounds, talking about Race Relationships
