5-seed Cardinal Gibbons defeated 3-seed Holly Springs 25-16 in the girls lacrosse eastern regional championship on Tuesday to advance to the state championship game.
After defeating the defending champions East Chapel Hill in the fourth round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association state playoffs, the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders rolled past Holly Springs on the road in the east regional final to advance to the state championship, 25-16.
Middle Creek scored the first four goals of the game, led by as many 12 goals, triggered a running clock in the second half, and advanced to the fourth round with a 17-7 win over the Golden Hawks.
