tri-stri. gregg: back to the drawing board on the bush era tax cuts, u.s. senate defeating two democratic plans that would have extended tax cuts only for some americans. molly henneberg is live in washington and been following the story. explain why democrats were unable to get the votes to pass either of these two measures. molly: they didn t peel off any republican votes and lost five members so democrats couldn t reach the 60 vote threshold. on the vote to extend the tax cuts for families making $250,000 left. russ fine gold and ben nelson of nebraska and jim web and joe lieberman joined republicans to oppose it. the president obama said he was, quote, very disappointed that the senate did not follow the house in passing the measure. today s vote cannot be the end of discussion. it s absolutely essential to hard working middle-class families and to our economy to make sure their taxes don t go up on january 1st. molly: republicans argue it doesn t make any sense t
