The Kansas baseball team fell on Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field to New Orleans by a score of 5-2. Redshirt freshman Cooper McMurray hit his first career home run in the defeat.
The Kansas baseball team will travel to the Big Easy to face New Orleans in a three-game series at Maestri Field this weekend. KU is coming off a series win last weekend in Corpus Christi, Texas, against Illinois.
When I close my eyes, I still see it the pitch leaving my hand, the batter hitting it to shortstop, and the fans in the stands of Hoglund Ballpark going wild.
It took a moment to completely register what happened. I pitched the first no-hitter against a Big 12 opponent in the history of our program. It was also the first no-hitter by a Kansas player at Hoglund Ballpark, period.
Just knowing all of the great pitchers who walked through those halls, it’s a feat I’ll never take for granted.
But when I close my eyes, I also see beyond the celebration. I see everything that led to that moment, and it wasn’t all glamorous, let me tell you.

The University of Kansas has submitted a proposal to the Kansas Board of Regents to construct a nearly $200 million science building, a move that ‘appalled’ a group of faculty members concerned about KU’s budget.
But a KU spokesperson said the university’s proposal was procedural and that the building’s construction would be dependent on securing funding. KU does not expect plans for the new building a second integrated science building to materialize “soon,” spokesperson Erinn Barcomb-Peterson said, and the university remains focused on its immediate budget challenges.
