Mr. Means is a editor at the washingtonian, author and coauthor of 10 books, including Andrew Johnson and the 45 days that changed the nation, Johnny Appleseed the man, the myth, an american story, and the first biography on colin powell. Kent garrett and Jeanne Ellsworth are here with us today courtesy of tom and margaret mr. Garrett graduated from harvard in 1963. He has had a 30 year emmy and peabody awardwinning career in Television News and documentaries. Jeanne ellsworth has a nephd in social foundations of education from the university of buffalo and has devoted her life to teaching from Elementary School to prisms, to universities. The book is called the last negroes at harvard, 61 years ago harvard admitted 18 negroes, thats what we were called then, we were the largest number at that time ever admitted to harvard. We were from all different parts of the country, north, south, east, west, we came e fr different economic and socioeconomic grounds and they had been admitting blacks to harvard but only two or three at a time, most guys would go do their four years

Donated by the children of another couple honeymooning there at the time, this is the first time the footage has been seen by the public. So, the bushs honeymoon at the cloisters. This is george and barbara bush, this is inland. Theres her husband. And im guessing they share the camera back and forth, back and forth together, but they were both on their honeymoon. Looks like somebody is trying to get perfume on somebody right now. But theres diving. Im guessing this is maybe bocce ball . They were playing some kind of game, and they are intently measuring how far the ball is away from the white ball. So, im not sure exactly what the game is, but there seems to be a lot of measuring. But whats amazing is just how young both couples are. And then, you know, president bush had already served in the navy, been shot down. But still, its like hes a young kid. Dr. Freeman is a professor of history at yale university. She specializes in Early National american politics and culture.
