A Seattle Police Department precinct was vandalized with graffiti on Tuesday shortly after the city removed a protective barricade that surrounded the building, according to authorities.
The phrases NO GOOD COPS IN A RACIST SYSTEM, cops kill, and BLM, among other words, were sprayed in graffiti on both the SPD West Precinct and the sidewalk area around the headquarters. Police said a group protesting inequity in policing was responsible for the damage.
Officers cleaned off the spray paint during the beginning of their Wednesday shift. The West Precinct remains closed to the public to meet Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, police said.

Seattle also appears to be failing to devote necessary resources to meet even basic compliance with the records law, said Kathy George, a lawyer who specializes in government transparency issues.
“If they’re not devoting enough resources, at a certain point, it seems clear that it’s an intentional backlog, they’re planning to have slow responses,” she said. “You can’t do that under the Public Records Act.”
The law demands public agencies provide the “fullest assistance” possible and to respond to requests “promptly.” Neither “an extreme backlog” nor “staffing shortages” fall among the exceptions allowed for delaying responses, George said.

SEATTLE The first day of a multi-day maintenance and cleaning operation to remove a homeless camp in Cal Anderson Park has come to a close. Seattle police began clearing the camp Friday morning to allow the parks department to clean up the area.
The police department said 24 people were arrested as of 5 p.m. for various charges, including felony harassment, trespass, failure to disperse and resisting or obstructing arrest.
