Immigration reform is obviously a top priority of president obamas second term, and its also high on the agenda of this countrys labor movement. But it hasnt always been that way. In 1924 president Calvin Coolidge who was backed by the American Federation of labor signed the johnson act and that established immigration quotas limit the number of immigrants who could come to america. Back then the afl also aligned its a with quasi fascist groups like the American Defense society which deemed many immigrants genetically inferior.
