SIR – As we mark the second anniversary of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, it is worth reminding ourselves of the memorial near Mylor Bridge in Cornwall, where, below a white cross, a plaque reads: “This symbol of faith in God was erected by Ukrainians who, escaping from Russian communists, found refuge in England”. Modern theologians who make this claim need to read some early Church history. Christianity has always had a strong pull towards individualism.
