united states and it is one day after another just getting hotter and hotter. i will begin to go away a little bit in the middle of the week when some of the seat begins to break away and move closer to the northeast. heat domes still in control of our weather, especially in the west. vegas will be 113, phoenix, a degree or two warmer than that and that will be the broken record for a while. this is the above-average temperatures in the plains for today. they begin to slide a little bit further to the east. even if we want things up 5 or 10 degrees, you will notice it. you will notice in chicago and new york city where temperatures go from the middle 80s to almost middle 90s. above average temperatures next week and we go from 85 to in chicago and notice what is happening by the weekend. thursday and friday, backup above 90 degrees and the humidity is back as well.

direction. and your sense as to whether or not this can be turned around. yeah. so 2024 may be a little warmer. we ve only seen part of the el nino event in 2024. we ll see more of that event. it might be a little warmer. here s the thing. we are right now on almost exactly the trajectory that climate scientists, climate modelers predicted we would be on decades ago if we didn t act. if we continue to burn fossil fuels. there are no real surprises when it come to the overall warmth of the planet. it is pretty much what we predicted it would be in this scenario. what is a bit surprising are these extreme weather events. these floods and wildfires. heat domes. and there s some evidence that there are processes that are important in the real world. it has to do with the behavior of the jet stream and how it gets stuks in place. the models don t completely capture that behavior.
