While many residents of residents of Northern Ontario may have taken a holiday over the weekend, COVID did not. In fact, the Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) reported an additional 141 cases since Friday.
The health unit did not report the number of recovered cases over the same time period.

Since the beginning of the pandemic there have been 1151 residence diagnosed with the infection.
However, the PHU is hoping that if more people get their vaccine that the daily increase will start to flatten.
Dr. Lianne Catton, Medical Officer of Health for the Porcupine Health Unit (PHU), is extremely pleased to announce the ongoing success of the weekend vaccine blitz in Timmins. So far, the weekend blitz has resulted in over 1500 additional residents in Timmins accessing their first dose of a Pfizer vaccine, either by attending a mass immunization clinic or a walk-in clinic.

Yesterday, the Porcupine Health Unit reported thirteen new confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Eleven cases are from the Timmins area and two are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls, Smooth Rock Falls. Ten cases are contacts of a case and three are under investigation.

Over the last 14 months, there have been 734 cases in the area. With 26 deaths and 566 recovered Dr. Lianne Catton, Medical Officer of Health for the Porcupine Health Unit (PHU), announced “We are pleased to share the news that more than 50 percent of adult residents (18+) in the PHU area have received at least the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.”

The Porcupine Health Unit has issued a report that effective Tuesday, February 16 at 12:01 a.m. their region will be moving into the âOrange â Restrictâ category as to the instructions of the Government of Ontario.
According to Dr. Lianne Catton, Medical Officer of Health for the Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) âThe move to this level of the framework is a necessary step given the increase in positive COVID-19 cases over the last few weeks, the outbreaks and the possible presence of a variant of concern in our region.â
