Experts at AIIMS and the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) have said that pesticide residues, organochlorine, lead, and nickel in blood, milk and vegetables cause mysterious disease that left over 600 people sick in Andhra Pradesh s Eluru. It is to be noted that one person also lost his life due to the mysterious illness.
The experts mentioned in their reports submitted to the government that the amount of pesticides and herbicides found in the vegatables were more than the permissible limits. A team of scientists at the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) said that traces of mercury were found in rice and residues of organophosphorous in blood. The NIN, however, added that more study is needed to find out how these materials entered the human body.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy held a video conference on the cause for illness in Eluru with experts. AIIMS, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) and other reputed institutions have confirmed that the residues of pesticides could be the reason for the outbreak of the mysterious disease in Eluru.
The Chief Minister said all types of tests should be conducted so that incidents like Eluru would not repeat. The Chief Minister told to focus on maintenance of dumping yards and instructed the officials to conducts all possible tests across West Godavari district. The Chief Minister instructed to test drinking water samples from all sources in all the districts. The samples should be collected systematically and should be analysed with experts, he said. Hyderabad, Dec 11: One week after the strange illness broke out in Eluru in Andhra Pradesh, which claimed 1 life and left 600 sick, analysis carried out by various groups have found several abnormalities in the food that the victims had consumed.
The state government is going through the reports and Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy held a meeting with medical experts in Amravati.
National Institute of Nutrition found traces of mercury in rice and pesticides and herbicide residues in excess quantities in vegetables. Residues of organophosphorous in blood were also found, but said it has to be studied how they entered the humans.

AMARAVATI, Dec: 11 Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy conducted a video conference on the cases of illness in Eluru and ordered for in-depth examination and research in every aspect to find out the exact cause of the outbreak.
During a video conference with the authorities, Doctors, and experts from AIIMS, NIN, IICT,CCMB, NCDC and NIV, the Chief Minister said to test water samples, recheck and confirm if the illness is due to contamination of water or not. He said the presence of organochlorine, and organophosphorus is detected in blood samples and it should be definitely found how it happened. He said the state government has constituted a committee and directed to move forward coordinating with the various organizations, agencies, and experts conducting testing on the illness.
