Graduating students at Haskell Indian Nations University have the option to celebrate their accomplishments in person or virtually on Friday, thanks to a local community center and a Haskell student organization.
Sacred Ground Haskell, a community center and campus ministry organization across the street from the university, will be hosting a graduation ceremony, dinner and powwow for Haskell graduates.
Deon Prue, ministry leader at Sacred Ground Haskell, said the celebration would be for Haskell students who graduated in the spring of 2020 or fall of 2020, in addition to those graduating this spring. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) The federal agency that oversees Haskell Indian Nations University plans to send a team to the Lawrence campus following the faculty’s no-confidence vote in its president.
The Bureau of Indian Education said in a message to university employees that an “impartial administrative review team” would arrive Monday, the Lawrence Journal-World reported.
“Our goal is to use this impartial review to help make sure HINU continues to function as a premiere standard for post-secondary education in Indian Country while supporting the rights of students and staff,” the message said.

Following a vote of no-confidence in the president of Haskell Indian Nations University earlier this month, the government agency that oversees Haskell has sent a team to the Lawrence campus to do an administrative review.
An “impartial administrative review team” from the Bureau of Indian Education was scheduled to arrive at Haskell on Monday, according to a message the BIE sent to Haskell employees.
The message states that the BIE takes local concerns seriously and that the team will gather and review information regarding student and staff concerns as well as the Faculty Senate’s vote of no confidence.
