Harry A. Blackmun | United States jurist

Harry A. Blackmun, in full Harry Andrew Blackmun, (born Nov. 12, 1908, Nashville, Ill., U.S. died March 4, 1999, Arlington, Va.), associate justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1970 to 1994. Blackmun graduated in mathematics from Harvard University in 1929 and received his law degree from that institution in 1932. He joined a Minneapolis, Minnesota, law firm in 1934, and while advancing to general partner in the firm he also taught at the St. Paul College of Law (1935–41). In 1950 he became resident counsel for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and held this post until 1959, when
