[ applause ] thank you. i just threw this old rag on, from my closet. now, first of all, i ve got something to clear up. i did a joke last night on the show about spraying for med flies. we have a med fly problem, i guess. 36 med flies - they ve discovered. and they re spraying 22 square miles in los angeles, and according to the paper, they re spraying with malathion, which is toxic, and they suggested well, you begin to wonder, right? anyway, i got a call today from jara currey, from the california department of food and agriculture. apparently, that joke last night started to panic people. and she says don t panic, folks. it is the protein that carries the poison that spots the car. it doesn t strip the paint off. in other words, it apparently leaves little spots on the car. it does not strip the paint. so, in other words, it s safe, i guess, on humans. wouldn t it spot
two heroes in my youth. i learned a lot from underdog. i used him as an inspiration in my political career. it did not take long to put their spirit on full display. the best part is being with my crew from new orleans. it s so great to be here in beautiful new york. we brought some of that new orleans weather back home. even with an abundance of security on this day let s all be thankful there s still plenty of innocence as well. what s your favorite part of the parade? santa. big balloons. i like the floats. spongebob with the san ta hat on. i like the star balloons, the macy s star balloons. i like the turkey because it s thanksgiving. are you going to eat some turkey later? yes. how much? a lot. reporter: i think she speaks for a lot of people, a lot of turkey coming. the parade ends downtown near 34th street and then it s dinner with the family for a lot of people and then begin. rob nelson, channel 7, eyewitness news. leave it to you to f
this. but first, with some background, here s eyewitness news reporter rob nelson. it s a move that would impact about 400,000 residents in about 180,000 apartments throughout new york city a national ban on indoor smoking in public housing across the country. if that s what they need to do to keep everybody healthy, from getting cancer and all that other stuff, that s understandable. federal officials say the move would not only cut back on the impact of secondhand smoke, but would also lower building-maintenance costs and reduce the risk of fires. still, critics say it s just another example of government overreach. it s a benefit in one way. but it s an intrusion in your personal life and your privacy. smoking is already prohibited in the hallways and lobbies of public-housing buildings in the city. but this latest move would be a step further, leaving some to wonder about how to possibly enforce it across the city s more than 300 public-housing complexes. in
