Farmers leader Rakesh Tikait goes on hunger strike, refuses to surrender
Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait has refused to surrender before the police. He has demanded that a Supreme Court-appointed committee should investigate the Republic Day violence in Delhi.

He also started fast at the protest site and said he would drink only water from his village. We want to court arrest peacefully. But it seems there is a plan to stir violence while protesters return. If there is any such plan, I will remain here. I will face the bullet, Rakesh Tikait said.

New Delhi: A day after the national capital saw unprecedented violence during the farmers’ Republic Day tractor rally, Delhi police commissioner S.N. Shrivastava said on Wednesday some farmers’ leaders were also involved in the violence and that all those involved will not be spared. A Special Investigation Team, including officials from Special Cell, Crime Branch and the district police, has been constituted to investigate the incident.

Tension prevailed at the Ghazipur farmers protest site after the Ghaziabad administration ordered the protesting farmers to vacate the area by Thursday night. Reports said that personnel of the Rapid Action Force have been deployed at the site along with a huge contingent of the Uttar Pradesh Police.

Protesting farmers did not follow the marked route for their tractor march on Republic Day and forcibly entered central Delhi by removing police barricades.
They clashed with the police and also entered the Red Fort and unfurled their flags from its ramparts.
Farmers have been camping at the border areas of the national capital for almost two months as part of their protest against Centre`s three agriculture laws. Meanwhile, security has been heightened at the Singhu border (Delhi-Haryana border) after the violence broke out during a tractor rally in various parts of the national capital on Republic Day.
