A Siskiyou County man was one of a few people tasked with securing Washington, D.C., during President Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremonies on Jan. 20.
Gen. Daniel Hokanson, who grew up in Happy Camp, became the 29th chief of the National Guard Bureau and member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff last August.
His name became a household word after the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol, emerging again after National Guard troops provided security for inauguration ceremonies.
From Jan. 7 to Jan. 19, Hokanson oversaw the movement of more than 25,000 National Guard troops into Washington, D.C. an area about seven square miles larger than Redding, but with about 600,000 more people.
