Mortal Kombat s premiere in theaters and HBO Max, Warner Bros. released the first seven minutes of the final product for fans to get hyped for the film s release.
The seven-minute clip brings viewers to 1600s Japan, where we meet Hanzo Hasashi (Hiroyuki Sanada) and his family on the patriarch s compound. Viewers get a glimpse into the fighter s personal life before tragedy hits. The clip is age-restricted (because of all the murder), but offers a peek at the tone and action Mortal Kombat fans can expect from director Simon McQuoid’s adaptation. The scene is set at the compound of Hanzo Hasashi (Hiroyuki Sanada) the man who would later become Scorpion in the year 1617. Hasashi’s idyllic family life is interrupted by the arrival of Lin Kuei warrior Bi-Han (Joe Taslim), whom we know better as Sub-Zero. And anyone who’s been keeping up with the Scorpion-Sub-Zero relationship over the past three decades knows that the two absolutely do not get along.
Though it s been out in other parts of the world for a few days now, American audiences won t get to feel the full force of the long-awaited
Mortal Kombat film until this weekend. It s been a long wait, but to help tide us over, Warner Bros. just dropped the first seven minutes online to watch for free.

Mortal Kombat is the fulfillment of years of fan wishes for an updated, R-rated big-screen take on one of the most beloved video game franchises of all time, and so far it seems to be delivering. Anticipation among fans continues to build, reviews from overseas are largely positive, and everyone s jaw is still on the floor from that moment in the trailer when Sub-Zero made a knife out of someone s frozen blood. Now, after months of waiting, we get a more substantial taste of what the film has to offer.

Mortal Kombat comes to theaters and HBO Max this weekend, and just in case you need a little incentive, Warner Bros. went ahead and released the first seven minutes of the film online. This action-packed, blood-drenched opener takes you back to 1617 and shows the start of a battle between Bi-Han (
Joe Taslim) and Hanzo Hasashi (
Hiroyuki Sanada). Of course, those familiar with the
Mortal Kombat series will likely recognize that those characters are destined to become Sub-Zero and Scorpion – but when the film starts, that hasn’t happened just yet.
