LOCAL SkillsUSA STUDENTS AWARDED 18 MEDALS! Special to Devils Lake Journal DEVILS LAKE - Members of the SkillsUSA student organization at the Lake Area Career & Technology Center in Devils Lake recently competed in the virtual State SkillsUSA Competition. Devils Lake had 29 students competing in 5 different events and came away with 18 medals - 5 Gold, 7 Silver, and 6 Bronze. The Bronze medals were awarded to Madisyn White in the Medical Terminology contest, Kristen Eback in First Aid/CPR, and the Health Knowledge Bowl team consisting of Kaylee Lippert, Kenzie Jacques, Gabbey Crough, and Tiffany Robbins. The Silver medalists were Hallie Fritel in the Related Technical Math contest, Gabbey Crough for Job Interview, Ana Richards for Medical Terminology, and the Health Knowledge Bowl team consisting of Zoee Devier, Ellie Volk, Felicity Erickstad, and Chloe Gefroh.

School board modifies mask policy for graduating seniors, approves virtual learning policies for next year

Assistant Superintendent Kathy Hopson at last night’s specially called school board meeting. During a specially called meeting last night of the Stuttgart School District’s Board of Directors, the board voted to approve virtual learning policies for the 2021-22 school year and to modify the mask policy for graduation and senior night. Board members Tim Vose, Candace Prine, Jennifer Payton, and Carla Gipson were present at the meeting on Tuesday, April 27. First on the agenda was a resolution to adopt Act 1240, allowing the district to petition the Arkansas Board of Education (ADE) for the same waivers granted to charter schools for hiring unlicensed teachers. According to Superintendent Dr. Rick Gales, unlicensed teachers can be hired under the provision, as long as they complete a two-year program to become ADE-licensed under their employment contract.
