HOMER, N.Y. (WHCU) If village of Homer residents want to fix a nearly 200-year-old church, they may have to pay up.
The Cortland Standard reports village officials raised the issue this week that only one option’s left to fix the Little White Church – residents would have to agree to bond for the repairs, at a cost of 128-thousand dollars. That’s the estimate officials were given to accomplish some necessary work on the church.
The village board raised the issue Tuesday, but there was no vote. If they aren’t able to get the bond, officials say the 188-year-old church will be demolished. Mayor Hal McCabe says the price of repairing the church’s foundation and one of its walls is more than the village has.
