RED DEER Red Deer College and the University of Alberta’s Campus Saint-Jean are collaborating to offer two programs for students to complete a Bachelor of Education degree in French. The two programs being offered are the Bachelor of Education Elementary program and the Bachelor of Education Secondary program. Students will take the first two years of courses at Red Deer College and finish the remaining two years at Campus Saint-Jean in Edmonton. The partnership is anticipated to increase the numbers of teachers in French immersion programs and in Francophone schools in the province. “This unique program will provide more students in central Alberta with diverse, second language learning opportunities much closer to their home communities. Longtime Québec racing official Guy Pelletier passed Monday (Dec. 29) after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Pelletier, of Sherbrooke, Qué., spent over half a century helping to administer harness racing in Québec, and wore a diverse assortment of administrative and managerial hats throughout his storied career.
He left a career as an industrial engineer to become the race secretary at Sherbrooke Raceway in 1968, and later became the race secretary and general manager at both Hippodrome Trois-Rivières and Hippodrome Pré-Vert in Jonquière.
In 1987, he departed racetrack management to become a judge at various racetracks throughout Québec, and retired at the age of 82 after completing the 2019 season at Hippodrome 3R.
