HUBBALLI: Residents of the twin cities have much to be chafed about: On the one hand, dealing with the surge in Covid-19 cases is keeping them on their toes, while technical glitches are turning the process of paying property tax into an infuriating exercise.
The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has been unable to rectify the mistakes, and residents, eager to avail of the 5% rebate, have been struggling to obtain their receipts for payments made online, while visiting counters to get challans is proving a futile exercise too, since they are being directed to the zonal commissioners. Residents have only till April 30 to avail of the discount on the tax.
Local villages allowed to dump garbage at sewage farm
Exasperated by the relentless dumping of garbage along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) despite efforts to spruce it up, the authorities on Tuesday fixed the onus on the Panchayat Development Officers (PDO) to ensure that the road remains clean.
At a stakeholders meeting, Mysuru MP Pratap Simha said that the ORR alignment abuts a few village panchayat limits and the garbage from these places are dumped along the roads at night. Hence the PDOs of the respective villages will be held responsible and penalised for any garbage dumping that takes place along the ORR stretch coming within their jurisdiction.

Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is banking on a slew of new initiatives, including waste water recycling, in its bid to reclaim the cleanest city tag from Indore in the forthcoming Swachh Survekshan 2021.
MCC Health Officer D.G. Nagaraj told presspersons on Monday that the city was already recycling 30% of its water and utilising it for secondary purposes such as gardening and fountain maintenance, and this is expected to shore up the city’s cleanliness quotient. The other initiatives include the launch of a local app that is expected to increase the citizen feedback score.
