a lot of people were having parties in their room. we heard them. okay. so you what we re understanding now, we re get a report, was that it was the 20th floor where the party started. so when you saw some sort of smoke or fire, was that on the ground floor? where was that that you saw? no, no, it was up alevle. it was up. it wasn t on the ground floor level. i don t know if it was the 20th floor, but it was the start of where the rooms are because there were balconies and there were terraces. what floor to the balconies and the terraces start on, about? i don t know, to be honest with you. i think it s like 16. because one elevator bank was from 6 to 16 and then i think 16 and up is where it starts. i don t know. i don t want to give you information that s not right. okay, maha, stay with me. i just want to talk about some of the pictures we re seeing right now on cnn. these are people being evacuated
frigid day in the northeast. there was snow in this area and i know there was in some areas. it s a terrible day for being outside, much less shooting water on to a horrible fire. you stay with it, john, because we don t know the extent of the injuries, but when they re coming out of the building and they re pumping their chests and asking for more water and screaming for an ambulance, that s never a good sign. lots of news coming out of there. this thing is spreading quickly. boston s fire department, there s a twit pic, for our folks who want to pull that out. they sent this out themselves and it shows this fire ascending from the basement. it started in the basement level. then came to the ground floor level and in these pictures from boston fire, you can see the flames rising up into the second story and now, we know it has gone all the way to the third story and they ve gone to nine

storm chaser james reynolds actually captured that rescue on tape and took astounding pictures of the destruction in tacloban. earlier i talked with him about what he saw in that typhoon as the typhoon ripped through. reporter: absolute chaos during the height of the typhoon. we were in a solid concrete building which we could feel shaking as massive bits of debris went crashing into it. rain traveling at over 100 miles an hour. the water was just coming in from every direction into the hotel. you could see the water cascading down the stairs into all the rooms. the windows were blowing out. giant shards of glass everywhere, pieces of metal flying through the air. it was just an extremely harrowing situation. then the water started rising and the storm surge came in flooding the entire ground floor level of the hotel and trapped
