(Photo courtesy of GBI) SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said a man was shot and killed by police on Saturday in Spalding County.  The man killed was 29-year-old Stephen Neil Weigand from Griffin. Police said he attempted to evade arrest and led officers from multiple law enforcement agencies on a cross-county chase before aiming a gun at officers.

Special Feb. 9 election pits Republican incumbent Broder against Democrat challenger Wimbish for Fayette District Attorney

Veteran Assistant D.A. Marie Broder was appointed last year by Gov. Brian Kemp to replace Ben Coker, who became the circuit’s newest superior court judge. The special election on Feb. 9 is for the remaining two years of the four-year-term for D.A. Broder, a Republican, has a Democrat opponent, Rev. Dexter Wimbish, a Griffin-based attorney and civil rights advocate.

Special election set for district attorney, Griffin Judicial Circuit

The Citizen your username your email Password recovery Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger this week announced Feb. 9 will be the date of the special election required for the Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney, which became vacant due to the appointment of The Honorable Ben Coker to the Superior Court of the Griffin Judicial Circuit. The special election will be held on February 9, 2020 for the county in circuit, which includes Fayette, Pike, Spalding, and Upson counties. A run-off, if needed, will be held on March 9, 2021. Qualifying for the Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney special election ended at 1:00 p.m., Dec. 18. The qualifying fee is $3,674.20.
