across the team a new burst of energy. french investigators are working to identify this beespiece, and then to begin the process of looking at the flow charts to see if they can backtrack and find the rest of the plane. they ll also look at the sea life on the wreckage to see if that provides clues as to the journey the piece might have taken. tom, thank you very much. i want to bring in aviation attorney daniel rosen, former ntsb greg fife. thank you both for being with me. greg let s start with you. talk to me about the forensics. what are investigators looking for? one of things jose they re going to look for, is positive identification. each of these parts has a data plate with a part number that is general to that particular type aircraft and then of course a serial number that is then matched to the serial number of the airplane. without that data plate, they can still identify that part as being the part based on drawings, that is the
engineering drawings for that part. it looks like boeing has already done pretty much that forensic investigation. greg the size of it is pretty substantial. this is not a little chunk of it. but is there enough there to determine that it was that specific plane? i know there aren t a lot of 777 parts floating around the world, right? yes. this part is big enough. when you look at the characteristics, it s an air foil shape, it apparently is a part of a flap and based on the build, that is the substructure of that particular component. boeing and the investigators will be able to confirm that that is in fact off of a 777 airplane. in short of anybody reporting a part has fallen off another airport, which there is no report to this date most likely, that s part of mh370. daniel we see this. there s some sea life on there, barnacles, et cetera.
