Ferguson Supreme Court decision allowed states to legally separate blacks and whites as long as “equal” accommodations were provided for both races. The legal precedent was known as “separate but equal.” In 1954, Plessy v Ferguson was overturned by another Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education. This decision called for schools, restaurants, swimming pools, community centers, and other public spaces to integrate the races.
