Blenheim Palace has changed the name of its “Indian Room” to avoid causing controversy with colonial links in a new Winston Churchill exhibition.
An exhibition titled Greatest Briton at the wartime leader’s Oxfordshire birthplace will detail his life story with displays throughout the 18th-century stately home, including in the property’s Indian Room named for its Raj-themed wallpaper.
Churchill’s legacy has been scrutinised after Black Lives Matter protests saw his Parliament Square statue daubed with the word “racist” last year, and the National Trust promised to address his alleged role in the Bengal Famine which left up to three million Indians dead.
